The State government’s talks with the Telangana Teachers’ JAC on Thursday ended in vain. The JAC put four demands before the government and demanded a written assurance on them to create favorable situation for discussions.

The Minister for Secondary Education, Mr K. Parthasarathi, held discussions with the Teachers’ JAC leaders in his chamber in the Secretariat on Thursday.

The Teachers’ JAC submitted a letter to the minister with four demands recommendation of the State government to the Centre on formation of separate Telangana State, removal of ESMA imposed on education department, residential schools and colleges, withdrawal of Go No 177, cancellation of transfer of Singareni School headmaster K Devender at Illendula and withdrawal of cases filed against the teachers and their immediate release. They also urged the minister to give an assurance in writing on their demands and create congenial atmosphere for holding talks.

Making it clear that solution to the Telangana statehood issue was not in the hands of the State government, the minister assured them that he would examine their demands provided the Telangana teachers called off the strike and resume duties. The minister also warned the Teachers JAC leaders that stringent action would be taken against those who attempted to stop the teachers from attending to their duties. With this, the Teachers’ JAC announced that the talks ended in failure as the government failed to create congenial atmosphere for discussions.

Speaking to the media after talks, the Telangana Teachers JAC leader and DPF Floor leader in the Council, Mr B. Mohan Reddy, made it clear that Telangana teachers strike would continue until separate Telangana State was created. He regretted that on one side , the government was inviting the Teachers JAC for talks and was harassing the striking teachers on the other.

Pointing out that the Mandal Education Officer of Nakrekal mandal of Nalgonda district was arrested by the police and the Singareni School Head Master in Ilandu was de-promoted as SGT teacher for participating in the strike, the JAC leader said that they would come for talks only after the government conceded their four demands. Private schools would also be not opened until formation of separate Telangana State, he claimed.

Stating that the teachers would have the equal responsibly as of parents on the future of the students, he said that it was their responsibility to complete the syllabus. Though Telangana students were coming out of colleges in flying colours, they were not even getting clerical jobs, he said, adding that “our agitation is for bright future of the students”. Making it clear that there was no truth in the news story published in an English daily that the teachers would end strike on October 15 and resume duties, he clarified that there was no question of withdrawing the strike.

The Teachers’ JAC Chairman, Mr Pula Ravinder, said that the government just enacted a show on dialogue with T Teachers’ JAC. Though the teachers unions had served a strike notice to the government two months back, it failed to take any steps to avert the strike. Instead of accusing the teachers JAC, the parents should make an appeal and bring pressure on the State and Union governments on Telangana statehood issue that would automatically lead to opening of the schools.

Stating that the Telangana agitation reached a climax, he demanded that the Centre announce a road map for creation of separate Telangana state.
