The Telangana Rashtra Samithi MP, Ms Vijaya Shanti, the Karimnagar Congress MP, Mr Ponnam Prabhakar and other Telangana protagonists have expressed anger at the Union Finance Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherji’s statement that the Telangana issue was likely to provoke similar demands in other States in the country. Talking to the media here on Wednesday, Ms Vijaya Shanti said that Mr Mukherjee’s statement was like beating around the bush, without addressing their demand. She said their demand had no connection with demands for other States, as they were not asking for a new State. They were only asking for de-merger of an existing state. Seriously critical of the Congress, she said the party chief, Mr. K Chandrasekhara Rao, was innocently trusting the ruling party. She said the Congress party would be immersed in the sea, with these remarks.

The Karimnagar MP, Mr Ponnam Prabhakar, has also strongly criticized the Union minister for his provocative remarks. Stating that they were not asking the High Command for a time-frame, he said they had demanded that Telangana should be created immediately by de-merging it from Andhra Pradesh. He reminded that Mr Pranab Mukherjee had said earlier that there were differences between the regions of the State and the Telangana movement was 56-years old. He said that the Congress should not keep changing its word on Telangana. Mr Prabhakar has advised the party leadership that it should stick to the December 9, 2009 declaration. He questioned as to why the Congress leadership, which could resolve many serious and complex issues was unable to resolve the Telangana issue.

Stating that the Congress leaders of the State were telling the people that it was they who would give Telangana and bring about Telangana State, he said it was the Congress party’s moral responsibility to create Telangana. He also asserted that the Telangana issue had nothing to do with demands for other States. If Telangana was not created, Congress would perish, he warned.

The TDP senior leader and MLA, Mr Revuri Prakash Reddym, has alleged that the Congress party was changing its stand on Telangana on a daily basis. “It was they who said they would give Telangana. It is again they who are saying they wouldn’t”, he commented. He said the Congress party has once again cheated the people of Telangana. He said the TRS chief, Mr KCR owed an explanation to the people, on this
