Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao on Monday criticised the YSR Congress Party president and Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for claiming that the UPA was able to form the government at the Centre for the second time because of the hard work of former Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

Speaking to reporters, he reminded that even the latter leader always said that the Congress retained power because of the efforts of lakhs of party workers.

“If Mr Jaganmohan Reddy’s remarks are true, why did the party win only six Lok Sabha and 60 Assembly seats in 1984 and 1985 elections respectively? Why did the party win only 91 Assembly seats in 1999? Even in 2009, people returned 33 Lok Sabha seats and in the same proportion, the party should have won over 200 Assembly seats.

But only 153 candidates were elected two years ago,” he said. He also demanded why the Congress leaders were silent when the Kadapa MP was criticising the Congress leadership.
