TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu’s sudden air dash to New Delhi has given rise to several doubts. Though he and his party leaders have been claiming that his visit was primarily to discuss farmers’ problems with national leaders and chalk out a programme of joint agitation, fact remains that he has been trying to impress upon the national leaders that Congress was indulging in witch hunting. He has alleged in his media conference that CBI has become the pocket organization of the Congress. He has also reiterated his demand that CBI should be an autonomous body, without government influence or interference.

After Naidu met the NDA convener Sharad Yadav, he too has alleged that CBI was being used by the Congress to harass its political opponents. Sharad Yadav has pointed out that of the 26 politicians languishing in various jails on corruption charges, only one belonged to the Congress party.

Babu has also met the CPI leader A B Bardan. Though he might have discussed farmers’ problems, he has also made use of the opportunity, to impress upon the leader that he was being harassed.

Critics of Naidu pointed out that he has carefully avoided meeting CPI (M) leaders. If it was for purely farmers’ problems that Naidu went to Delhi, why did he not meet the CPI (M) leaders, they are questioning. They are pointing out that Naidu cannot complain to the CPI(M) about corruption charges, as that party has published the book “Chandrababu Jamana Avineeti Khanana” (Chandrababu Regime, Haven for Corruption), when he was the Chief Minister. One BJP leader has said the day was not far off, when the beleaguered Naidu would knock even the doors of his party.
