Congress MPs of the Telangana region have announced that they would fight for separate Telangana State on the floor of Parliament.

The MPs met at the house of former minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy and discussed their future course of action in view of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s statement that conceding Telangana would not be possible under the present situation.

Talking to the media later, MPs Manda Jagannatham and K Keshav Rao said that they would raise their voice on the floor of Parliament on the decades old issue. They also warned the Centre that they would be constrained to take bitter decisions, in case the Union government rejected Telangana demand. They said that they would be prepared for mid-term elections.

Condemning the statement of the Prime Minister, they said they knew that the Telangana issue was a delicate one and were urging Centre to consider the special situation prevailing in the region. Asserting that they would stand by the people of the region and fight for Telangana what come may, they made it clear that they would not hesitate even to cause mid-term poll. Dr Keshav Rao has termed the Prime Minister’s statement as “unfortunate”.
