The High Court on Monday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the assets of former chief minister and Telugu Desam Party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu and submit report in a sealed cover within three months.

Admitting a petition filed recently by the YSR Congress party honorary president and Pulivendula MLA Y S Vijayamma, a bench comprising justices Ghulam Mohammed and Nooti Ramamohan Rao pronounced orders directing the CBI and Enforcement Directorate to inquiry into the assets of the former chief minister.

It may be mentioned here that Y S Vijayamma, widow of late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, filed the petition seeking a probe by the CBI and the ED against Naidu on various counts.

In her petition to the High Court recently, the Pulivendula MLA alleged that the assets declared by the TDP president Nara Chandrababu Naidu was bundle of lies. She has alleged that the former chief minister, during his nine year tenure, had amassed huge assets by resorting to corrupt practices in connivance with several individuals thereby draining the State exchequer.

While the YSR Congress party leaders hailed the High Court order directing the CBI and ED to conduct preliminary inquiry into the assets of the TDP president, the senior TDP leader Yerrannaidu said that they were not afraid of any probe. Pointing out that several inquiries ordered by late chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy failed to prove charges against Chandrababu Naidu in the past, Yerrannaidu alleged that Vijayamma had filed a petition against Naidu with an intention to sidetrack the ongoing investigation into the assets of her son. He also reminded that late YSR had to withdraw his petitions filed against Naidu from the court for want of evidence.
