The Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) today demanded that the ruling Congress and main Opposition Telugu Desam help in passing a resolution in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly in support of granting statehood to the region.

“The major parties, Congress and Telugu Desam, should take initiative to pass a resolution in support of the separate Telangana demand, much like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati (who was proposed four-way division of UP),” JAC Convener M Kodandaram told reporters here. The JAC comprises TRS, BJP and a number of pro- Telangana people’s organisations like pro-Telangana employees of Andhra Pradesh Government.

The JAC, which organised nearly 40-day strike by the Government employees in Telangana in September-October, has said it would step up the statehood agitation when Parliament and AP Assembly session begins.
