Jagan comes to compromise with Cong?

Apart from the fear of going to Jail, the YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is also worried about reports of his MLAs slipping back to the Congress fold. Though 26 or 29 Congress MLAs stood by Jagan, they are now re-thinking. They have been confident of winning elections in the name of Jagan and his father late Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy till recently. But, after CBI started cornering Jagan and reports stating that he might go to jail, these MLAs are no longer sure that they would win hands down on YSR Congress ticket. Despite the seeming popularity of Jagan and the crowds he has been drawing wherever he went during his Odarpu Yatras, a public discussion has started on the charges of corruption against him. If during the course of time, a strong public feeling develops against him, then the MLAs supporting him would have no future. They would not be able to win with YSR Congress tickets. Congress also would not take them back if they go that far.

Realizing the situation in which he has been placed, Jagan appears to be trying for a truce with the Congress leadership. Jagan has developed some useful contacts in the Congress leadership when his father was alive. He may use those contacts to come to terms with the Congress high command.

Though the Congress leadership is presently satisfied with the functioning of the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, it is still unhappy that he has allowed three MLAs to migrate to TRS. Likewise, Congress is also not sure that Kiran Kumar Reddy could command the strong Reddy votes in the state. It has been amply proved that Kiran Kumar Reddy, D L Ravindra Reddy and YS Vivekananda Reddy together could not muster the votes of the strong Reddy community. Congress leadership has a feeling that Reddy lobby was strongly supporting Jagan. Likewise, the party high command also has a feeling that Jagan has the backing of Dalit Christians, thanks to his brother-in-law Anil.

With these factors in Jagan’s favor, the Congress high command also might not be averse to have truce with him. But as the CBI has been probing Jagan’s assets and his involvement in the Gali Janardana Reddy mining scam, Congress may take time to take him back. In the meantime, efforts might be made from the top leadership, to ease Jagan from the present trouble.
