Well-known freedom fighter Konda Lakshman Bapuji on Nov 1 went on fast at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to mount pressure on the Union government to concede Telangana at the earliest. Bapuji visited the Rajghat and paid his homage to the father of the nation. He sat there in Satyagraha for an hour and later adjourned to Jantar Mantar, to launch his fast.
Speaking before launching his fast, Bapuji said that the Centre should respect the peaceful agitation for Telangana. He warned that if it did not do so, there was danger of the movement turning violent. He also clarified that his agitation was not against any political party. Demanding that the December 9, 2009 declaration by the Centre should be honoured, , he said his fast was to hasten the process of formation of Telangana State. Congress MP Madhu Yashki, TDP MLAs Yerrabelli Dayakara Rao, Motkupalli Narasimhulu, Telangana Nagara Samiti leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy and others turned up at the fast camp of Bapuji and extended their support to him.
