Rachabanda in Warangal a damp squib

The second phase of Rachabanda held at Kasibugga in Warangal East Assembly Constituency on Wednesday was a failure on the part of Government as no Minister attended the programme. Immediately after the announcement of Rachabanda programme phase-II by the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and Telangana leaders threatened that they would disrupt the programme at any cost. Fearing backlash from Telangana activists, the district officials deferred the programme many a time. The Ministers – Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Baswaraju Saraiah – after much dilly dallying at the initial stages, finally agreed to participate in the programme.
Initially, the district officials planned to conduct the programme on November 14. They rescheduled it to November 17. Ultimately, they decided to conduct the programme on Wednesday. B Saraiah who was scheduled to participate in the programme at Kasibugga in Warangal East segment did not turn up. From early in the morning, the Telangana activists, particularly women members, gathered at the venue in large numbers. They raised slogans in support of Telangana. They heckled that the programme without people’s representatives would serve no purpose. Police personnel, present in large numbers, had a tough time in controlling them.
The programme at Mogullapalli in Parakala constituency was also held on a dull note. MLA Gandra Venkatrami Reddy who was expected to attend, did not turn up. The officials completed the programme in haste at both the places. About 50 persons were taken into custody by the police at Mogullapalli for disrupting the programme. As a precautionary measures, police took into custody several activists, and there were rallies, dharnas and other types of agitations demanding the release of arrested persons.
The Municipal Corporation of Warangal made drinking water and other facilities at the venues. However, the programme was a damp squib as the purpose of the programme was not served.
