BJP seeks to better tally via bypolls

The BJP which has been promising a Telangana state is suffering from humiliation in the TRS dominated Telangana Political JAC for sidelining party interests while contesting bypolls.

According to reliable information, the BJP members who have attended the political JAC meeting on Saturday highlighted the issue, and asked TRS leaders why they should contest in all the bypolls and seek the BJP’s support always.

In fact, except in the Nizamabad bypoll, that was caused due to the resignation of BJP member Laxminarayana, the remaining bypolls held after 2009 were won by the TRS.

Bypolls to six Assembly segments in Telangana are going to be held sometime in March 2012 and the TRS has already decided to contest all of them.

The BJP feels that leaders leaving the Telugu Desam and the Congress are joining only the TRS and not the BJP though it is cent per cent committed to the Telangana cause.

“If everyone see the TRS as the true alternative for the Telangana cause what would be the fate of the BJP, that too when by-polls to six Assembly seats and local body elections are round the corner,” said a source.

If the situation continues like this how can the party improve its tally in 2014? This is the question raised by Telangana leaders both in the party forum as well as the TJAC meeting.

Speaking to this newspaper, the BJP state president, Mr G. Kishen Reddy, while agreeing to the demands of party cadres on contesting bypolls, categorically said, “This time we will contest some of the seats. We will also seek the help of the TRS and other Telangana parties. We cannot accept a one-sided affair always.”
