Telangana Congress Steering Committee chairman K Keshava Rao on Sunday warned that the Congress party would suffer a humiliating defeat in the by-elections to be held in six constituencies in Telangana region, if the Centres fails to announce a decision on the statehood issue.
Talking to media persons at his residence, Keshava Rao said that the party would be wiped out from the Telangana region if it prolongs the issue to post-winter session of the Parliament. However, he hailed the statement of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad stating that a decision on the issue would be taken soon.
Keshava Rao said that the Congress leaders would not approve any special package or regional council for the region and would fight until they get Telangana state, with Hyderabad as its capital. He also condemned the rumours appeared in a section of media claiming that Telangana leaders were trying to destabilise the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government in the state.
Stating that the separate Telangana state would be achieved with Kiran Kumar Reddy Government, he said “The Telangana Congress MLAs have voted against the No Confidence Motion in order to save the government. Why would we work against the same government?”
Keshava Rao expressed confidence that the Congress party would win all the seats presently represented by rebel MLAs associated with the YSR Congress party.
